Rock Ensemble

As a music teacher in the modern world, it can be a struggle to keep classical music - and classical instruments - alive.  It's no surprise; our world is full of not only pop music, but programs such as "American Idol" and "The Voice", designed to find the next big star.  Gradually, classically trained musicians are making progress with the pop culture of today.  Artists such as Lindsey Stirling and the Piano Guys are making incredible strides using classical instruments to make "pop" music.  David Garrett and others are putting a heavy metal spin on classical favorites such as Winter from Vivaldi's Four Seasons by adding electric guitar and heavy bass lines.  Who says we have to leave this to the professionals?

Coming Soon!  We will be offering a rock ensemble to all string students (violin, viola, cello, and bass).  We are in the process of simplifying favorite songs of today and arranging them into parts for classical string instruments.

Interested participants should be able to read music, know note values down to dotted quarter notes and eighth notes (we will delve into others such as sixteenths and dotted eighths, but this is a good basis for understanding), play major and minor finger patterns, and play the bow with staccato and slurring.
